My Time Capsule

At the beginning of October, my brother moved out of our long term rented apartment room. He sent the non-furniture stuffs to our house in Bandung and I was going to let them be for the mean time. However, yesterday--all of a sudden--my father got busy downstairs and he wanted to take out the papers. Oh no!

I immediately went down, sorted through them real quick, and salvaged some that I deemed priceless.

Salvaged from a time capsule, private doc.

I remember never throwing out my old diaries even though they were all about fantasies of a lovestruck teenager (I think those are in my house somewhere...). But the diaries in my late teen days, though, oh my. Those were filled with story ideas I obtained from a good night sleep and sudden enlightenment in the middle of the day. I wrote those in my diary books, my lesson books, loose leaf papers, the backside of unused printed documents -- basically everywhere.

And those were still there, waiting for me to open the pencil-on-paper words which had started to fade but still somehow legible.

What I didn't expect to find were some personal letters. One was sent, returned along with its reply, and the others weren't. I wrote the latter after I had moved to Jakarta in 2005. I meant to hand them to my best friend the next time I visited Bandung, but for some forgotten reason, I kept them instead.

It was really interesting to see how my mind worked back then, how I chose my words (how bad my English was but I still used it as if I was the coolest ice cube in the fridge haha).

Everything was exactly like a time capsule, reserved for my future eyes. And now I've seen them. I'm sure glad I have! They remind me how much, how frequent I wrote back then, how fun it was, and how I would bring my diary to my classes just so that I could sneak some writings in the middle of everything that happened!

I sure hope the words cannot be clearly seen in the picture, though, haha. I'm not ready to unleash my writing prowess to the world before I can sort them out better. And I'm going to have a blast doing it!
